Our space saving stairs offer narrow treads sequence that move sometimes into a spiral design to fit into the tightest of spaces in a home. Thanks to your imagination, you will easily access any space in your home safely and efficiently. The space-saving staircase is often shorter and has a smaller footprint, it is thus designed to take up less space in the home. Our space-saving stairs are available both as straight flight stairs and quarter turn stairs. Choose in between a full wooden stair or a stair with metal structure in different colours and with wood treads.

Small and compact space saving staircases

We have a large assortment of compact space saving staircases. As part of the design for our smallest space saving staircases you have the option to reverse treads and shape the staircase into the space you have to work with. You’ll be amazed to see what can be achieved even when space is at a premium. All SOGEM staircases are manufactured to the highest standards with the ideal blend of Scandinavian design and quality finish.

Paddle stairs

In our space saving staircase range we offer quite some models with paddle tread they are e.g., our BERLIN, ATLANTA and BASEL stairs. Paddle tread provied a bigger foot space (going) when you learn to walk them. You can view detailed measurements on each product for each layout helping you design a staircase that’s right for you.

We don’t compromise on safety

You can finish your stairway project by installing a landing banister at the top of your staircase. We have a wide selection of landing banister and handrails We can recommend our Classic Landing banister with vertical balusters less than 100mm gap which is a requirement in some building regulations. This landing banister come in four colours: black, white, anthracite and pearl grey.

Stairs for loft conversions

Space saving loft stairs are ideal to access your loft space or conversion. They are designed to take up the least amount of floor space in your living area. At SOGEM we have developed a large space saving staircase assortment. You can choose your ideal tread option. Our DALLAS comes with multiplex treads but we offer a number of different wood finishes.

High standards

To ensure the highest quality, we manufacture our staircase to specific standards. SOGEM staircases comply with European building standards defined in EN 1991 and EN 1993. Some of our staircases are certified to a maximum point load of 200 kg and a maximum total load of 620 kg. Some handrail banisters is also approved for a horizontal load of 50 kg metre.

How to build a staircase

We endeavour to make purchasing and installing of your new Staircase as simple as possible. We design our stairs to be easy to mount with most basic of tools. Our Staircase has a great flexibility that makes the staircase adjustable to fit restricted spaces. A regular space saving stair will take 2 person one weekend to install. Please check our installation video before you start.

GET TO KNOW YOUR STAIR

HIGH COMFORT STAIR

 

A comfortable staircase is a combination of deep treads (going > 19 cm) and a low tread rise. The tread rise is typically 17-21 cm. Width: 80 cm or more.

SPACE SAVING STAIR

 

A space saving staircase is developed with a steeper pitch to occupy minimal space. Often a tread rises between 18-25 cm and a going below 18 cm.

FLOOR-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT

 

The distance between your floor below and the floor above. This measurement should be made in your home where the staircase will be installed.

NUMBER OF TREADS

 

The number of treads on a staircase depends on the floor-to-floor height in your home. Our stairs are with several numbers of treads to fit the needs.

WIDTH OF STAIRCASE

 

The stair width is the complete width of the staircase including tread, strings and potential banister. A high comfort staircase is 80-100 cm.

GOING

 

The going of the treads is measured as the horizontal distance between two treads’ leading edges. It defines the foot room when walking down the stair. A comfortable going is above 19 cm.

TREAD RISE

 

The rise is measured as the height between two treads. A comfortable rise is 17-21 cm.

TOTAL GOING

 

The total going defines how much space the stair will occupy in your room. It is the horizontal distance from the outer edge of the first to the wall.
